FAQ – Laser Hair System

FAQ

About Hair Growth - Information about hair loss and hair regrowth

1Is it too late for me to start using iRestore?
In order for low-level light therapy (LLLT) to work, you cannot be completely bald. The hair follicles must still be alive, otherwise laser therapy may not be effective. As long as you still have hair, even thin hair, laser therapy may be beneficial to you. iRestore is not intended for individuals with severe hair loss. Please refer to the Norwood-Hamilton Scale (male) or Lugwig-Savin Scale (female) to identify your stage of hair loss. LLLT is suitable for (IIa-V for men, I-II for women). Consult your physician if you are not sure whether low-level light therapy can benefit you. Alternatively, you can email your pictures to info@ilaserhairsystem.com to have our specialists evaluate your hair conditions to see if laser therapy would be beneficial for you.
2What's the difference between lasers and LEDs?
Lasers emit coherent light and can be transmitted over longer distances as they focus on a single point. LEDs tend to distribute their power over a larger area, without the traveling effect of laser. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) tend to target and affect local tissues that are exposed to the light. From a short distance, lasers and LEDs may behave very similarly and deliver energy in a similar way. Because it's not coherent light, LEDs can actually use higher power at healing wavelengths and not cause harm, especially since we use high quality LEDs to maintain the required energy levels. All light sources are designed and positioned close to the scalp to allow hair follicles to receive the proper light energy to promote hair growth.

The iRestore uses the combination of both lasers and LEDs to deliver photons to the scalp to reach both the superficial tissue and the deeper tissues (hair follicles). LEDs work along with lasers to provide wider coverage to the full scalp. The LEDs iRestore uses are powerful medical grade LEDs near monochromatic light, which has properties very similar to lasers, yet still providing broad stimulation of the scalp to ensure exposure of all hair follicles to the light energy.
3Will iRestore promote a reduction in hair loss?
Low-level light therapy (LLLT) uses a scientific process to fight hair loss and promote hair growth by stimulating cell metabolism at the follicular level. This treats genetic hair loss and allows users to have long term success without experiencing an increase in health risks. Many solutions on the market use drugs and chemicals to regrow hair. These may have long term complications for your health and wellbeing. We are against the use of any potentially invasive and unsafe options. We advocate using the right methods to improve your beauty and health.
4Are the lasers harmful?
We use low-level lasers (Class 3R). Laser diodes are safe and have been used for decades. Cold lasers are non-invasive, however all lasers can harm you if you look directly at them. The lasers do not emit heat or radiation––the treatment is completely pain-free. These lasers are cleared by the FDA for both safety and efficacy.
5What if iRestore doesn't work for me?
While we expect low-level laser therapy to help most hair loss sufferers improve hair conditions and promote growth, inevitably a small percentage of users may not see significant results. Unfortunately, it's impossible to truly know whether your hair will respond to light therapy until you try it. For individuals with severe hair loss, laser therapy may not be beneficial. However it's not expected to worsen your hair conditions.
6Can laser therapy be used with other hair loss products?
Physicians believe that laser therapy can be safely used with other hair products. In fact, many physicians have reported that laser therapy can help improve the effects of other hair loss solutions because it can increase cell metabolism rate and elevates blood flow in the scalp area, which can enhance absorption and supply of nutrients.

This published article by the International Journal of Trichology discusses a study of low-level laser therapy on male and female patients who suffered from androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair loss). They concluded from the study that " LLLT represents a potentially effective treatment for both male and female androgenetic alopecia, either as monotherapy [by itself] or concomitant therapy [along with other treatments]. Combination treatments with minoxidil, finasteride, and LLLT may act synergistic to enhance hair growth... No adverse reactions were reported."

Questions about iRestore Hair Growth System

1How long until I start to see visible results?
How long until I start to see visible results? You can expect to see visible results from low-level light therapy within 12 to 24 weeks of continued use of 25-minute sessions every other day. Results will vary from individual to individual. You can expect to see a slowdown in hair loss and reduction in miniaturization of hair follicles in the first 2 to 4 months. From around 4 to 6 months, you may notice thicker, fuller hair starts to grow back. LLLT is expected to yield better results as you continue using it to maintain healthy hair growth.

Be patient as hair growth is different for each and every person. Remember––hair only grows less than half an inch each month.
2Can I use iRestore everyday?
You are not advised to use it everyday. We recommend to allow one day of rest in between your 25-minute sessions. Using the helmet more than the recommended usage has not been proven to provide better results. Overstimulation of the hair follicles may be detrimental to the hair restoration process.

Information pertinent to customers and owners of iRestore

1Can I use iRestore everyday?
You are not advised to use it everyday. We recommend to allow one day of rest in between your 25-minute sessions. Using the helmet more than the recommended usage has not been proven to provide better results. Overstimulation of the hair follicles may be detrimental to the hair restoration process.
2I noticed my hair is falling out/shedding after my initial treatments, is this normal?
For most hair loss solutions, it is perfectly normal for some users to see shedding in the beginning as weaker, thin hairs are shed to be replaced by stronger, thicker hairs. Low-level light therapy (LLLT) is not expected to make hair loss worse because it is designed to combat genetic hair loss. Our clinical advisors believe that any hair loss you may observe initially is normal and can likely be attributed to the staging of hair growth.

There are four stages of hair growth cycle: anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen phase.* It's a repeated cycle of hair growth, hair loss, followed by hair growth again. Think about it as the process of old, weak hairs falling out as it is replaced by new, thicker, healthier hair.

The exposure to red light of the dermal layer of the skin, in the mid-600 nanometer range of wavelength, corrects the metabolic cycle of the mitochondria located in the proliferating cells of the dermal papilla. In layman terms, the red light increases the efficiency of the hair follicle and turns on cell metabolism.

Although visible results are not expected immediately. We're confident that low-level light therapy can improve your hair conditions significantly with consistent usage over time. Stay consistent and we expect you to start noticing positive improvement in hair condition.
3Is it safe to use finasteride (Propecia™) and/or minoxidil (Rogaine™) while using iRestore?
Low-level light therapy (LLLT) may be used in conjunction with many types of approved hair loss treatments. 20What's the power adapter voltage? Will it work in my country?
Our AC adapters specs are AC 100-240V (Output: DC 5V), 50/60Hz. With every international order, we will ship the iRestore device with a power adapter that works in the destination country. If you have a different need for power adapters, you could simply contact our customer support and let us know which power adapter to include with your package.
21Is iRestore Hair Growth System (Essential & Pro) regulated for safety?
The iRestore uses medical-grade lasers (Class 3R) and light-emitting diodes which are cleared by the FDA. Our users have never reported adverse side effects or been harmed from use of our device. Only misuse of the device, such as staring directly into the lasers, can cause harm or injury. However, there's a safety sensor built into the device to prevent that from happening, as long as it is used as instructed.
22I'm an international customer, will the power adapter plug work with my country?
For iRestore device orders that are shipped to a destination outside of the United States, we will provide an adapter that works for that country to make sure you can use your iRestore wherever you are. If your order is shipped to a USA address before being forwarded to an international destination, please notify us as soon as possible with your order ID so we can send the correct adapter to you.
